In its native Maori tongue New Zealand is called “Aotearoa”, meaning “Land of the Long White Cloud”.  And it’s not hard to see why.  Look at satellite pictures of New Zealand and you’ll see two long skinny islands with a smaller dot of land below, defined by a backbone of mountains running almost the length of the country.  If you can see the mountains beneath the long line of white cloud that is. The Southern Alps that form the spine of New Zealand sit abreast the… READ MORE >

The rising fog as a storm clears in Fiordland creating an amazing spectacle.

You can see why New Zealand so quickly and easily became not only the visual background for the epic Lord of the Rings movies, but literally BECAME Middle Earth itself.  Although JR Tolkein never visited this country in his lifetime, he must have had exactly our kind of wild and impressive landscapes in mind when he first imagined Middle Earth. Though who could have dreamed that one of the youngest nations on earth would so truly BECOME the literal and physical home of the greatest fantasy… READ MORE >

Wai-O-Tapu thermal wonderland, Rotorua

Wai-O-Tapu (Maori for “Sacred Waters”) is an 18 sq km geothermal park in Rotorua, New Zealand and one of the region’s most iconic tourist attractions. In June of this year I spent a morning at this incredible location where I wanted to use my drone to capture aerial footage of the famous Champagne Pool. Frequently photographed from land due to its vibrant and colourful waters, I was aiming to get a birds eye view of this unique geographic feature. The name “Champagne Pool” is derived from… READ MORE >

I recently completed a photo shoot in Glenorchy (in the South Island of New Zealand) for a NZ company “FX Bikes” to shoot their prototype, super light, go anywhere, 60 kg “Mountain Moto” motorcycle. It was great to be able to work in such beautiful locations as there are on offer in this area.  Glenorchy is a personal favourite of mine and I love every opportunity I have to get back there.  On this shoot, I photographed two motorcycles as a father and his 12 year… READ MORE >

Castle Hill, Arthurs Pass, South Island, New Zealand

Those of us who have been born and raised in this wonderful country – colloquially titled “Godzone”, as well as many who have traveled here at a later stage – often to remain, are already convinced of the wonders this distinctive nation offers.  For me, it is a feeling that is reinforced every time I arrive home after a trip away.  But never more so than when I have the opportunity to return to the South Island and my true “home of homes” – the peaks… READ MORE >

Many of you know this image as one of Chris’s more well-know photographs.  But maybe not so many of you know the story of this adventure, nor what it is like to experience the Lost World of Waitomo Caves in New Zealand.  I thought I’d share here an old story written about my trip into this cave, and what this subterranean adventure actually involves.  Read on and Enjoy!! Finally, a trip that on the surface looks like it should carry a “Not for the faint-hearted” warning… READ MORE >

For all you adrenaline junkies out there!  Amazing footage in this promotional video for the new GoPro Hero 3 just released, a large proportion of which was shot in our very own Godzone – little old New Zealand!  Including a quick glimpse of Glenorchy in the South Island (near Queenstown) – one of my personal, very favourite spots…  Fantastic to see!  And the mountain biking (Queenstown) and the swimming with the whales (Tonga)… just amazing!!  See if you recognise some of the other locations in there…… READ MORE >

“Not far from Rotorua lies Te Urewera National Park, one of New Zealand’s 14 national parks and boasting the largest remaining stand of native forest in the North Island.  The jewel of Te Urewera is the stunning Lake Waikaremoana, named by the Maori to mean ‘sea of rippling waters’. A good way to experience the park is to hike the Lake Waikaremoana Track.  With huts scattered along 46 kms of trail winding around the scenic shoreline, a guided option provided by Walking Legends means you don’t… READ MORE >
