You may recall an earlier post about my summer shoot at Snowshoe resort in West Virginia, on the East Coast of the United States of America. This time I was back for a winter shoot and once again the weather and conditions were on our side. From beautiful clear sunny days to fresh powder and an overnight low of minus 25 degrees Celsius, we experienced both extremes! My partners in crime on this shoot were Kalen and Mpaz, on skis and snowboard they helped cart my… READ MORE >

Although I’ve been fortunate to have worked in over 45 different countries with my photography, both the Arctic and Antarctica are very much still on my wish list.  Up until August that is, when I got to cross one of those off! Technically I had already been within the Arctic Circle a number of times during previous shoots in Alaska.  But this time we were heading north by boat – the M/S Stockholm polar expedition vessel to be exact – and we were going to get… READ MORE >

In December Chris was once again in China, this time to photograph stage two of the new Sheraton Huzhou Resort and Spa near Hangzhou in the eastern province of Zheijiang. This is a flagship property for Starwood Resorts in Asia, and its not difficult to see why. The main building’s distinctive circular shape has earned it nicknames such as “Horseshoe Hotel” and “Doughnut Hotel” and ensures this remarkable 27 story property stands out in a country where hundreds of new hotels are opening each year. Designed… READ MORE >

So far it’s been a busy year with commercial shoots in the South Island, US, China, Norway, Botswana, Fiji and Alaska.  But while at home briefly between projects earlier this year I had the privilege of presenting to a few different groups within New Zealand’s very enthusiastic photographic community.  One of the questions I always get asked is “how did you become a travel photographer” – or more often worded by the younger members of the audience “how can I become a travel photographer”?  (Watch this… READ MORE >

Earlier this month, in conjunction with Lowepro, we ran a caption competition on our Facebook page with the lucky winner Mark Wiseman taking away a brand new Lowepro ProTrekker camera backpack!  Mark was thrilled to be awarded the prize and no doubt he will shortly be out and about putting his new bag to good use. Reading through the numerous captions entered was a lot of fun and we will run another competition at the end of October.  In the meantime, I thought I’d share some… READ MORE >

Despite it’s winter themed name, Snowshoe mountain is a fantastic summer retreat with so much on offer it was hard to know where to begin when I arrived there late last month to commence a commercial photo shoot. From clay bird shooting to mountain biking, wilderness canoes and offroad Segways, a round of golf or a round of cocktails, exploring the forest trails by foot or by 4×4, seeking out peaceful tranquility or some spills, thrills and adventure… It can all be easily found in this… READ MORE >

Each year – together with Wildlight Safaris – I lead a photographic safari through Botswana where we witness and photograph a myriad of wildlife across a number of different regions, from the Chobe River to the Okavango Delta.  On last year’s trip I wanted to take a little extra time after the safari to explore Africa just a little bit further.  So after waving goodbye to our safari guests, together with Dean Fitzpatrick I headed off on the long road trip towards our destination; Damara Land… READ MORE >

Capture

Further to my April post on the Aurora Borealis I photographed in Alaska – and the time lapse video I made from some of the footage I captured – here is another series of time lapse segments taken around the South Island of New Zealand during my Wildlight Safaris Sth Island Photo Tour (next tour dates are the 10th to 23rd of April 2015 if you wish to join me – its a fantastic adventure which I can thoroughly recommend)!  To read more about my Photo… READ MORE >

Well, it’s been pretty quiet on the blog front of late, my apologies! That’s what happens when you have a few too many things on your plate all at once. June was indeed a busy month with our Travel Photography Awards competition closing on the 30th, I was booked to be shooting in Fiji for a full month (followed by only a week at home before heading out again to China), I had three speaking engagements to deliver to different groups within the photographic community and… READ MORE >

In September 2013 Chris spent time in Africa hosting a group photo tour with Wildlight Safaris, as well as visiting the Himba tribes of Namibia and capturing some great new wildlife images from Botswana as he checked out possible tour locations for this year’s Photo Tour safari. It was while on this trip that Chris first introduced us to Car-L and the amazing lion pics he was able to capture with this small remote control vehicle. What we haven’t shared with you yet are the further… READ MORE >

Sundog

On a recent shoot in the US I captured this landscape image of golden light over a cold and windy morning on the frozen Bering Sea, Nome, Alaska.  The ice crystals in the air have formed a sundog (the small rainbow like colours parallel to the sun.) From Wikipedia: Sundogs are commonly made by the refraction of light from plate-shaped hexagonal ice crystals in high and cold cirrus clouds or, during very cold weather, these ice crystals are called diamond dust, and drift in the air… READ MORE >
